High Tech Wages Stable in Second Quarter of 2005

Wages for high-impact technology professionals remained steady from Q1 to Q2 of 2005, but are down slightly since 2004

PHILADELPHIA—August 17, 2005—Wages for highly skilled technology professionals remained stable from the end of the first quarter of 2005 to the end of the second quarter, according to the latest Yoh Index of Technology Wages, the quarterly compensation index used by Fortune 500 companies to determine salary scales.

In the past year, wages have fallen slightly, with a 1.2% decrease in average wages in the second quarter of 2005 as compared to the second quarter of 2004. However, the Yoh Index of Technology Wages ended the second quarter of 2005 at 105.19, when indexed to January 2001 (1/2001 = 100), indicating that technology wages in general are up more than 5% over the past four years.

"We continue to see signs of strength in the high tech hiring environment as the nationwide unemployment rate drops to its lowest point since 2001," says Jim Lanzalotto, Vice President of Strategy and Marketing for Yoh. "However, high tech wages have not yet responded in kind, but have remained flat at best. We will be actively watching trends over the next quarter to see if a correlation eventually develops between increased hiring and wages."

Compiled quarterly by Yoh, one of the world's largest recruiting services firms for high-impact technology and professional talent, the Yoh Index of Technology Wages is used by emerging technology and Fortune 500 firms as a guide for determining their quarterly salary scale. Each Yoh Index identifies the top job titles in highest demand, and provides an index to compare current average wages over the same period last year.

The high-impact technology job titles in greatest demand during the second quarter of 2005, and their average hourly pay rates as determined by the Yoh Index, are:

  • Applications Development - $54.52
  • ASP.Net - $50.90
